{"id":47803,"date":"2026-03-24T00:20:38","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T21:20:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mk.gen.tr\/stockton-mortgage-denies-accessing-former-employees-email-accounts\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T00:20:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T21:20:38","slug":"stockton-mortgage-denies-accessing-former-employees-email-accounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mk.gen.tr\/en\/stockton-mortgage-denies-accessing-former-employees-email-accounts\/","title":{"rendered":"Stockton Mortgage denies accessing former employees\u2019 email accounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kentucky-based <strong>Stockton Mortgage<\/strong> fired back against two former employees\u2019 claims that the company accessed their personal email accounts multiple times in 2025 and used the messages in separate litigation.<\/p>\n<p>Two former loan officers, Christopher Hoehn and Ashley Hoehn, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/stockton-mortgage-gmail-lawsuit\/\">filed a complaint<\/a> last week in the <strong>U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama<\/strong>. The complaint accuses Stockton and unidentified employees of accessing their personal Gmail accounts without authorization and extracting sensitive information, including financial details.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit claims the former employees accessed company systems multiple times in 2025, including after leaving the company and returning their laptops. It also alleges that Stockton later included their emails, containing personal financial information, as unredacted exhibits in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/stockton-mortgage-lawsuit-novus-diversion\/\">October lawsuit<\/a> against <strong>Ixonia Bancshares Inc.<\/strong>, the Hoehns and other former employees.<\/p>\n<p>The October suit against Ixonia Bancshares, operating as <strong>Novus Home Mortgage<\/strong>, and 18 former employees accuses them of \u201cdefecting en masse\u201d and violating their nonsolicitation and confidentiality agreements.<\/p>\n<p>A detailed statement sent to <strong>HousingWire<\/strong> from a Stockton Mortgage spokesperson said that the Hoehns, who worked at its Huntsville, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/tag\/alabama\/\">Alabama<\/a>, office, violated professional and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/private-listings-fiduciary-duty-real-estate-agents-clear-cooperation\/\">fiduciary<\/a> obligations.<\/p>\n<p>The company added that its \u201cdata loss prevention\u201d (DLP) systems, which track certain risk indicators on company devices, identified the inappropriate activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese systems are not intended for real-time monitoring; rather, they are utilized to identify specific risk indicators, such as unusually large file transfers, transmission of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/safeguarding-sensitive-data-essential-practices-for-businesses\/\">sensitive borrower data<\/a>, or activity occurring after an employee\u2019s departure from the company,\u201d the statement said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis approach is consistent with industry standards, particularly given the volume and sensitivity of personal information we manage on behalf of our clients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company said any personal content visible on a screen could be captured as part of an incident review, but it does not access employees\u2019 personal passwords or email accounts.  The company said it identified a group of employees, including the Hoehns, that engaged in \u201cinappropriate and unauthorized conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this instance, our systems functioned as intended,\u201d the statement said. <\/p>\n<p>Stockton Mortgage called the lawsuit filed by some of the former employees \u201cwithout merit\u201d and said it appears to be an attempt to shift focus from their own misconduct.
